The Home Inspectors Manual - Phase Inspections

Sample Articles

Idea Hurdle- Crowd Dynamics
Bob Kille

The other day, I was explaining to a group of home inspectors the very real possibility that all homes in the future will need to have passed a methamphetamine residue test. Much like a required clear report for a termite inspection that must be filed before a home sale. I got quite a few looks of -- Yeah right, that'll be the day.

Lately, I've been involved with the manufacturer of the Meth Scanner. A hand held device that looks a lot like a laser temp gun. Were in the process of co-developing a protocol for home inspectors using the device to certify a domicile/living space as free of meth-amphetamine residue.

There has been a lot of new legislation passed in differing states, this legislation is paving the way for mandatory inspections nation wide. Even the EPA has a mandate to develop a protocol (HR 365), for national testing standards. The role of the EPA as mandated by HR 365 is to provide a consistent practical testing standard that can be applied to all housing with required remeadiation of meth residue before sale.

This morning I received an email from my wife containing a short YouTube video clip she thought was cute. Viewing it, I immediately thought of my prior conversation with my fellow home inspectors. Many of whom, I suspect, will be caught with their pants down. The informed and ready are always first in the market place and will garner the lion's share or recognition for this new service offering.

When you view this, put your marketing cap on and think about how any new idea, new product or service is received by the established crowd. Oh, the music is quite good also.
